No. 01: Her Brown Eyes
Her lips never said much.
All her stories were held
behind her brown eyes—
rooted in the earth,
a sense of permanence
to the lines that make her.
She would warm a room with each step,
a smile that travels across the ocean
when shown.
A heart and mind
that pays attention to every word
the one in front of her spoke.
Her lips never said much.
Behind her eyes, a neutrality—
some days of isolation,
others of security.
For all the wisdom they held,
she mostly saw melancholy.
Her brown eyes ground you,
the wrinkles to each side
encouraging as you speak.
Her brown eyes look for the exchange,
but it never came.
Her brown eyes were honest
for those who might care.
Those eyes, with humility,
close forever
after one last look.
